PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Arnita DeShields has a lot of heart, encouraging other women to get theirs checked.
She was nominated by her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, as a Spring 2026 'Women of Impact' nominee with the American Heart Association and their Go Red for Women movement.
The substitute teacher from Delaware County is just one of many women nationwide who are participating. In fact, there are five others in the Philadelphia chapter alone.
DeShields formed a team she calls, 'Hearts in Motion.' They are providing education to their community through virtual and in-person events while also fundraising.
They recently gathered at the Cobbs Creek Library, inviting the community to learn facts and tips about heart health.
The campaign ends on April 9, 2026.
According to the American Heart Association and the CDC, the leading cause of death for women in the United States is heart disease.
